I scheduled this to be shared here on Oppo tomorrow, but after some consideration I’m sharing it now as well. Alex Kihurani is one of the first rally competitors I ever really talked to and the co-driver I always say I want to be when I grow up, despite us being the same age. No one I’ve met is more passionate or more driven to learn everything there is to learn about rally and reach the absolute pinnacle of his craft. His talent, his commitment, and his attitude are unrivaled. This is a man who, just by watching rally videos, made himself fluent in pace notes in about a half dozen languages, despite not knowing how to say “hello” in any of them. When he told me about his recent news (explained in his story) after Oregon Trail Rally it was like a punch in the gut for me. I wished I’d spent more time talking to him at the rally, but I intend to make up for it at an event in the near future.
